Join the Fight for Black Maternal Justice

Black women and families experience higher rates of maternal and infant deaths, often due to differences in healthcare access and treatment. Let’s work together to ensure Black families get the care they deserve.

Learn the Facts

Why Maternal Health Matters

The U.S. has one of the highest maternal death rates among developed nations. Maternal mortality, or the death of a mother related to pregnancy and childbirth, can occur at different stages: during pregnancy, at delivery, and after giving birth. Alarmingly, over half of these deaths in the U.S. happen after delivery, and are preventable.

Understanding The Maternal Mortality Issue

Black women are disproportionately affected, experiencing much higher rates of maternal death compared to White and Hispanic women, even with higher education levels. This disparity highlights the impact of systemic racism and inadequate postnatal support.

Important Points:

  • More than 50% of maternal deaths occur after childbirth
  • Black women face significantly higher maternal mortality rates
  • State-by-state data reveals significant differences in maternal mortality rates

Our Mission

To address these issues, we must provide quality, unbiased maternity care, tackle racial inequalities in maternal health, and address the lack of maternity health care providers that reflect the population being served.
